Sessions and Tracks

Session on: Dementia - An Underlying Disease

Dementia is a broad category of brain diseases that causes a long term and often gradual decrease in the abilityto think and remember that is great enough to affect a person's dailyfunctioning. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of disease which covers 50-70% cases. Thecommon symptoms of Dementia include emotional constraints, problem in finding words, lack ofmotivation etc. The severity of Dementia increases with a person’s age. The other common types ofdiseases which include Dementia are Vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia and Frontotemporal dementia. Worldwide, with Dementia or Related disorders nearly 44 million people have suffered in2015, past results shown 35.66 million population lived with Dementia worldwide in the year 2010, with numbers expected to nearly doubleeach twenty years, to 65.7 million in 2030 and 115.4 million in 2050. In 2010,fifty-eight percent of all population with dementia lived in countries with lower or moderate incomes, with thisproportion anticipated to rise to 63% till 2030 and 71% by 2050. This conditionis anticipated to double by 2030 and quite triple by 2050 to 115 million.

Session on:  Alzheimer Disease

Alzheimer is the most common category of Dementia. It is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder and caused by brain cell death. Thesymptoms of brain cell death are memory loss, disorientation and cognitive decline. The size of the brain shrinks and the nerve cells and attachments in the tissuesprogressively reduced, which cannot be diagnosed in the living brain affected by Alzheimer's disease, post-mortem/autopsy will always show tiny inclusions in thenerve tissues, called as plaques and tangles. Plaques are found between thedying cells in the brain - from thebuild-up of a protein called Beta-amyloid (amyloid plaques). The tangles existin the brain neurons, from disintegration of a secondprotein, called Tau. There are no existing treatments or preventive measures tostop or cure Alzheimer’s. Most of the patients with Alzheimer’s are above 65 years of age but 4-5% cases are of early onset Alzheimer’s.

Session on:  Neurodegenerative Diseases

Neurodegeneration is the progressive loss of structure or function of neurons, including death of the nerve cells. It can cause your brain and nerves todeteriorate over time. The neurological conditions in which the Dementia occurs include some disorders like Parkinson's disease, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, Huntington's disease, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). These diseases mimic Dementia or have Dementia as a major sign in the disease. The genetic factors areresponsible for the establishment of disorders like Parkinson’s disease, Down Syndrome, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Normal PressureHydrocephalus. The other factors for Dementia include physical factors like head injuries and Traumatic brain injuries.

Session on:  Vascular Dementia

Vascular dementia is the second most common type of Dementia after Alzheimer’s Disease. It is also called as Multi-Infarct Dementia (MID) and Vascular Intellectual Impedance (VCI), is caused byissues in the supply of blood to the mind, normally a progression of minorstrokes. Dementia is a general term describing problems with reasoning, planning, judgment, memory and other thought processes caused by brain damage fromimpaired blood flow to your brain. People with dementia give dynamic subjective hindrance, intensely or sub acutely as inmellow psychological debilitation, every now and again stepwise, after variouscerebrovascular occasions (strokes). A few people may seem to enhance amongstoccasions and decrease after more noiseless strokes. A quickly decayingcondition may prompt demise from a stroke, coronary illness, or infection. Dementia can be caused by ischemic or haemorrhagic infarcts influencingnumerous mind regions, including the foremost cerebral supply route domain, theparietal projections, or the cingulate gurus.

Session on:  FrontotemporalDementia

Frontotemporal Dementia alsoknown as Pick’s disease is broad term for group of disorders caused byprogressive nerve cell loss in the frontal and temporal lobes of brain. Spindleneurons have 70% loss in FrontotemporalDementia patients while other neurons remain unchanged. Temporal lobes havespecific function such as right temporal lobe involved in recognition of facesand known objects. Left temporal lobe involved in meaning of names and words ofobjects. Frontotemporal Dementiaincludes changes in behavior, personality and difficulty in speech. It issignificant cause of Dementiain younger people. MRI scans may show the frontal and temporal lobe atrophy.

Session on:  Neuropharmacology

The action of drug on the nervous system and the neural mechanisms through which they influence behaviour is studied in neuropharmacology. Studying these interactions will help the researchers indeveloping drugs to treat neurological disorders, psychological disorders, pain, addiction and other diseases. Drug development in Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease is based on evolving pathophysiological theory. Disease modifyingapproaches include the targeting of amyloid processing, aggregation of tau, insulin signalling, neuroinflammation and neurotransmitter dysfunction, with efforts thus far yieldingabandoned hopes and ongoing promise. Reflecting its dominance on thepathophysiological stage the amyloid cascade is central to many of the emergingdrug therapies. Rigorous clinical trials on Dementia drugs are continuing in USA and UK under the guidance of Alzheimer's society and it is reported that there is very less participationof people. The most of drugs are in second and third phases. New medicationsfor Dementia being developed in 2014/2015, 31% were named symptoms modifying.Such Dementia meetings will help researchers to know target areas for Drugdevelopment in Dementia and work towards it and also Dementia conferences exhibit clinical trial medications and offerspositivity to discover new approaches in curing Dementia.

Session on:  Neuroepigenetics

Neuroepigenetics is the field in Neurobiology thatreplaces the conventional thoughts on heritable epigenetic mechanisms, whichinvolves in histone and chromatin modification which results in the variableexpression of genes in the CNS. The numerous Neuroepigenetic mechanisms have been involved in several neurological and neurodegenerativediseases for theregulation of various epigenetic mechanisms. All the mechanisms in epigeneticswill have a biochemical characteristic such that it helps in regulationprocess. The basic principle of Neuroepigenetics is that once DNA methylation patterns are established upon thegenome in terminally differentiated cells, those modifications are permanentand essentially immutable. Other epigenetic molecular mechanisms are also inplay in neurons. Some are ATP-dependent chromatin remodelling, genomicimprinting, SNF2 chromatin remodelling.

Session on:  Geriatrics Dementia and Cognitive Disorder

Geriatrics or geriatric medication may be a specialty that focuses on healthcare of older people. It aims to push health by preventing and treatingdiseases and disabilities in older adults. there's no set age at that patientsare also underneath the care of a specialist or geriatric MD; a MD UnitedNations agency makes a specialty of the care of older people. Rather, this callis set by the individual patient’s needs, and therefore the availableness of aspecialist. It’s vital to notice the distinction between gerontology, the careof aged people, and geriatrics, that is that the study of the aging methoditself. Cognitive disorders square measure a class of mental state disordersthat primarily influence learning, memory, perception, and drawbackdetermination, and embody blackout, dementia, and delirium. Whereas anxiety disorders, mood disorders, andpsychotic disorders can even have an effect on psychological feature and memoryfunctions, the DSM-IV-TR doesn't contemplate these psychological featuredisorders, because loss of cognitive function is not the primary (causal)symptom. Causes vary between the various sorts of disorders however mostinclude damage to the memory parts of the brain. Treatments rely on however the disorder iscaused. Medication and therapies square measure the foremost common treatmentsbut, for a few sorts of disorders like amnesia, treatments will suppress thesymptoms however there is presently no cure.

Session on:  Role ofAmyloid Protein in Alzheimer’s and Dementia

The amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles formation arethought to contribute to the degradation of the neurons (nerve cells) in the brain and the subsequent symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Amyloid Plaques: One of the hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease is the accumulation of amyloid plaques between nerve cells(neurons) in brain. Amyloidgenerally indicates protein fragments that the body produces normally. Betaamyloid is a protein fragment from an amyloid precursor protein (APP). In ahealthy brain, these protein fragments are broken down and get eliminated. In Alzheimer, the fragments get accumulated to form hard & insolubleplaques. Neurofibrillary tangles are insoluble twisted fibres found inside thebrain's cells, consisting primarily of a protein called tau, which formsstructure called a microtubule. Transport of nutrients and other importantsubstances from one part of the nerve cell to another done by help ofmicrotubule. In Alzheimer's disease, the tau protein is abnormal and results in collapse of themicrotubule structures. This session includes Amyloid Protein and Alzheimer’s Disease, Amyloid beta metabolism in Alzheimer’s, Brain accumulation of toxic amyloid beta, Amyloid Plaques andNeurofibrillary Tangles, Amyloid Neuroimaging and biomarkers, Amyloidosis andNeurodegeneration, The amyloid hypothesis and potential treatments, Amyloidbeta deposition, cognition and brain volume.

Prognosis: Currently there are only few medications for Alzheimer’s, and they do not have the power to slow down the symptoms andthese medications do not reverse or cure the disease. After a person isdiagnosed with Alzheimer, a person can live between 1-20 years, but this might vary fromone person to another based on age genetic condition etc. There are a lot ofresearches that happens, to find a cure to Alzheimer’s. Pfizer and some other company have given up their research on Alzheimer’s. This conference Alzheimer’sConference, Alzheimer’s Congress, Dementia Conference and Dementia Congress play a vital role in the researchand hypothesis.

Session on:  BioinformaticsApproach for Dementia

Bioinformatics advent can be used to regulate and evaluate datafrom the current high-throughput research technologies and render means fornovel discoveries in the field of neurodegenerative diseases. It is reported that there is a very little published data onEpigenomics. It is said that the data are obtained from high through puttechnologies in screening of human brain. These data intend the upcoming researchers to know and designtheir experiments. The Data Mining plays an important role in the prediction ofthe disorder, where the actual data is compared with the real data and theresults are interpreted. The Transcriptomics and Proteomics studies has alsobeen carried out providing necessary solutions for the problems.

Session on:  RecentAdvancements in the Diagnosis of Dementia

The assessment of Dementia in needed to rule out similar symptoms showing to such diseasessuch as depression, delirium which is curable. It is necessary to provide timeto Dementia patients to plan future and make them literate about the possibleeffects in the future. There are various tests for diagnosing Dementia such as Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), Mental Score Test,Trail Making Test. MMSE test include series of exercises in which variousproblems are checked with memory, speech, ability to respond. Blood test isalso done to check levels of vitamin B12 and Thyroid hormones, which may beresponsible. Brain scans such as MRI and CT scans used for checking brain tumour andStrokes in Vascular Dementia. Neurology gatherings talked rigorously on Dementia Diagnosis and it is always misleading to different conditionslike Parkinson’s' disease. Hence discovery and establishment of new methodologies andtechniques for analysis is in the urge for the Dementia society for dependable diagnosis methods.

Session on:  Case Reportsin Dementia

The goal ofmuch of the research activity in dementia is to develop interventions for 'treatment' or even 'cure'. Theclassical bench to bedside paradigm has been disappointing in dementia. There is a long list of putative dementia treatment compounds with favourable pre-clinical and early phasetrial data that have been neutral or even potentially harmful when assessed inphase III studies. Lewy body dementia is a common but frequently under diagnosed cause of dementia often mistaken for the more familiar entity of Alzheimer disease. Clinically the distinction is important, because it can haveprofound implications for management. The diagnosis of Lewy body dementia has important implications. It is associated with a highincidence of neuroleptic sensitivity, necessitating great caution in the use ofthese common antipsychotic agents. Early studies indicate cholinesterase inhibitorscan be beneficial for treating the hallucinations and behaviour disturbancesthat afflict these patients and might also improve cognition.

Session on:  TreatmentModalities for Dementia

Treatment modality is a method that is followed to treat a patientsuffering from a disease condition. The treatment modalities have three mainapproaches, which includes medical, psychological and sociocultural approaches. The most important consideration is that, in practice, no single treatment isconsidered sufficient for the treatment of Dementia. By now the combination therapy which involves the use of two ormore drugs proves to be efficient. The other treatment methods which involvethe stem cell therapy and gene therapy has now created the spotlight in the Dementia Treatment. Hence the advanced treatment methods can be discussedin the conference.

Session on:  Dementia Care, Practice and Awareness

Dementia is predominant disorder that affects a greater number of peoplearound the world. Diagnosis of the patient with Dementia frightens the person affected by the syndrome, their familymembers and caretakers. Better understanding about public awareness of Dementia aids more effective health and social policies. Dementia patients need assistance and full-time care as much as drugs. Some common care practices in Dementia are assistance in food and fluid consumption, pain management, social engagement ensuring safety and security of Dementia patients. Main aim of care practices is to ensure cut inhospitalization and psychotropic drugs. Understanding patient’s mood changes, particularbehaviour, speech problems and help in rectifying them. Dementia patients need end of life care, so qualified nursing staff is needed.Few care practices which are used are indoor and outdoor activities, visual andaudio stimulation, Art therapy. Care practices in Dementia have been critical to engage in International Dementia meetings. In need to evolve in Dementia care world gathering and genuine talks on Dementia care is required. The Dementia conference discusses public awareness as well as care practicesto achieve higher rate of early diagnosis and to decrease the distress amongthe patient, family and caregivers.

Market Analysis

Somebody on the planet creates dementia at regular intervals. There were an expected 46.8 million individuals overall living with dementia in 2015 and this number is accepted to be near 50 million individuals in 2017. This number will practically twofold at regular intervals, arriving at 75 million out of 2030 and 131.5 million out of 2050. A significant part of the expansion will be in creating nations. Effectively 58% of individuals with dementia live in low-and center pay nations, however by 2050 this will ascend to 68%. The quickest development in the old populace is occurring in China, India, and their south Asian and western Pacific neighbors.

Statistic maturing is an overall procedure that demonstrates the accomplishments of improved medicinal services in the course of the only remaining century. Many are presently living longer and more beneficial lives thus the total populace has a more prominent extent of more seasoned individuals. Dementia for the most part influences more established individuals, despite the fact that there is a developing consciousness of cases that start before the age of 65.

There are over 9.9 million new instances of dementia every year around the world, inferring one new case each 3.2 seconds.

The World Alzheimer Report 2015 updates ADI's worldwide evaluations of the commonness, frequency and expenses of dementia dependent on efficient surveys. The report makes key proposals to give a worldwide system to activity on dementia. The report additionally incorporates an audit of the proof for and against late patterns in the predominance and rate of dementia after some time, just as an investigation of the more extensive cultural effect of dementia.
